Hormones Research — Propensities, Emotions & the Human System

This program explores how human propensities (instincts and tendencies) interact with emotions, the endocrine glands/sub-glands, the nervous system, and traditional Cakra mappings—shaping personality, resilience, and wellbeing.

Why Study Hormones & Propensities?

Propensities such as fear, anger, curiosity, compassion, and devotion co-vary with endocrine activity and autonomic tone. By pairing modern measures with traditional knowledge (including Cakra frameworks), we seek to understand how inner tendencies modulate physiology—and how training (yoga, meditation, lifestyle) can transform reactivity into balanced expression that benefits self and society.

Emotions & Endocrine

Links between stress/reward emotions and hormones (e.g., HPA axis, oxytocin), including roles of sub-glands and neuropeptides in moment-to-moment mood shifts.

Nervous System Interfaces

Propensity activation and autonomic balance (sympathetic/parasympathetic); breath pacing and posture as levers for self-regulation and attentional clarity.

Cakra-Oriented Models

Comparative study of traditional centers (Cakras) and nearby anatomical networks—endocrine plexuses, nerve bundles, and breath/posture influences—treated with respect and critical inquiry.

Methods & Measures

Behavioral & Affective Tasks

Attention switching, emotion labeling, impulse control; brief scales for stress, compassion, courage, patience.

Physio Adjuncts (as available)

Breath rate, HR/HRV, skin conductance, posture tracking; optional, non-diagnostic, privacy-first handling.

Practice Protocols

Breath-led āsana, gentle prāṇāyāma (exhale-biased), mantra meditation, kiirtan, sattvic diet timing, nature walks, and service activities—documented for safety and adherence.

Qualitative Reflection

Guided journaling on propensity shifts and life choices; mentor notes (de-identified) to enrich interpretation.

Note: These studies are educational/exploratory and do not diagnose or treat disease. Clinical concerns are referred to licensed providers.

Case Studies (Examples)

  1. Breath-Paced Courage: Does exhale-biased breathing before a challenge reduce avoidance and improve task performance?
  2. Compassion & Prosociality: Group kiirtan/meditation and changes in trust, generosity, and calm.
  3. Digital Sunset & Rhythm: Evening light hygiene plus sattvic dinner timing—effects on sleep and morning clarity.
  4. Cakra-Centered āsana: Targeted sequences with reflection on propensity balance (fear↔steadiness, anger↔discernment).
